A soft reverse clutch drum journal can cause bushing failure and/or reverse clutch drum journal damage in Ford CD4E and Mazda LA4AEL units. To salvage drums with worn or damaged bushing journals, Sonnax offers reverse clutch drum sleeve 73300-01. This prehardened steel sleeve will extend the life of the reverse clutch drum bushing journal.
• Pre-hardened steel sleeve is precision machined

Cause:
A soft reverse clutch drum journal.
Correction:
Salvage damaged reverse clutch drums by machining and installing the Sonnax pre-hardened steel sleeve.

Cause:
Casting bore wear at the bypass clutch valve and plunger sleeve wear allow converter apply and release pressure to exhaust.
Correction:
The Sonnax reamer restores the bypass clutch control bore while the OS valve re-establishes bore fit and extends life through additional spool support and annular grooves.

Cause:
Worn casting bores at the pressure regulator and converter regulator valves, and insufficient cooler and converter flow.
Correction:
The oversized PR valve restores the balance circuit to correct high line pressure and guards against excess EPC/TV pressure. The PR valve and converter regulator valve have modifications to properly regulate converter and cooler flow.

Reinstalling a rebuilt CD4E can be tricky when it comes time to connect the wiring harness, since the brittle plastic connector tabs are prone to breakage. Once that happens, the connector can be pushed into the case. To retrieve the connector you have to pull the pan and then struggle to hold the connector in place as you connect the wiring harness.
- Bracket connects to existing hardware inside the oil pan using existing bolts and holes.
- Holds connector firmly in place.
- Can be installed without having to remove solenoids or valve body.
- No modifications to transmission necessary.
Symptoms: - Broken retaining tabs on wiring harness connector
- Connector pushes into transmission case
Cause:
The plastic retention tabs that hold the wiring harness connector in place are easily broken. Once broken, the connector may push into the case.
Correction:
The Sonnax metal bracket positively supports the connector and prevents it from pushing into the case even if the plastic retention tabs are broken.

Sonnax now offers a shim kit 73251-01K to adjust both the planet-to-drum endplay and the differential endplay. These shims offer a finer endplay adjustment than the OE selective washers, resulting in a more precise endplay setting.

Fits '94-'08 except applications with the shorter spring.
In Ford CD4E and Mazda LA4A-EL units, low pressure, servo leakage and/or pin bore wear can all cause a degradation of the servo timing and apply rate of the direct clutch in CD4E transmissions. Sonnax reduced force servo return spring 73708 to addresses these problems.
• Replacement spring provides enough force to firmly apply the 2-4 band, yet is not overly stiff so that a controlled release is allowed
• Spring will work with both the one-piece or two-piece servo piston and rod assembly
Symptoms:
• 1-2 Soft• 3-4 Soft• 2-3 FlareCause:
The servo timing and apply rate of the direct clutch become poor due to low pressure, servo leakage and/or pin bore wear.
Correction:
Installation of Sonnax servo return spring will slow the release of the band on a 2-3, yet allow quicker servo travel on reapplication. This results in shorter shifts throughout.
Note:
This spring will shorten shift duration, but is not a fix for leakage, a weak pump or poor line rise. Always verify the hydraulics by testing line pressure first.
