Vehicles with a C6 transmission often have severely worn sunshells at the sun gear contact area. This wear allows the forward planet to make contact with the inside of the sunshell and results in increased driveline slack/noise. Quality used sunshells are virtually non-existent and new sunshells are expensive. Sonnax has developed a shim 36414-01K to allow the sunshell to be reused.
- Shims allow the sunshell to be brought back to its original height at the sun gear contact area.
- Shims prevent unwanted contact between the forward planet and sunshell.
Symptoms: - Driveline slack & engagement noise
Cause:
Severely worn sunshells at the sun gear contact area.
Correction:
The saver shims prevent unwanted contact between the forward planet and the sunshell.

Vehicles with Ford C6 transmissions often display stacked upshifts, no kick-down, little or no line rise and/or direct clutch failure. These concerns are frequently caused by wear of the transmission case at the modulator valve bore due to continuous oscillation of the steel valve within the bore. As wear progresses, line pressure and TV pressure are allowed to cross-leak or exhaust, resulting in these driveability problems. Salvage the case and restore normal shift operation by reconditioning the bore and installing Sonnax oversized modulator valve kit 36833-01K.
Symptoms: - Direct clutch failure
- High line pressure in Reverse
- No kickdown
- Poor line pressure control
- Stacked shifts
- Worn cases
Cause:
Persistent oscillation of steel OE modulator valve within case bore creates excess wear that results in driveability concerns.
Correction:
Recover hydraulic control and restore the case by reconditioning the bore and installing Sonnax oversized modulator valve kit.

The OE rear case bushings in the Ford C6/E4OD/4R100 transmissions tend to spin out, causing damage to the case. After the case is damaged, it is impractical to reinstall a standard bushing. Bushing spin-out may be due to lack of lubrication or too much load for a given bearing area. Sonnax has developed an oversized bushing installation system specifically designed for these applications. Replace the two OE bushings with Sonnax replacement bushing 36008C using the Sonnax installation tool T36008A to draw the replacment bushing into place.

Sonnax R code servo kit K36528R for C6 (mid 68-later) units features a no-leak pin which uses one O-ring and one PTFE ring to eliminate back pressure and leakage due to worn case bores. A replacement seal kit K36528R-SK also is available.
• More than 9 square inches of apply surface for more band apply force
• No-leak servo pin design allows the servo piston to be used in worn bores
• Two selective return springs allow for tuning of shift quality

Ford vehicles with C6 transmissions often have oil pan leaks. The original Ford C6 oil pans are made with thin-gauge steel. If the oil pan bolts are over-tightened, the flange at the bolt holes will warp and will result in a poor gasket seal. Once the oil pan flange is distorted, it is difficult to repair the pan flange to get a good seal. The Sonnax C6 oil pan 36950-01 is made of thick gauge material and will resist warping at the bolt holes. The thicker flange will allow the bolts to be tightened enough to compress the gasket evenly and result in a good seal. The Sonnax pan will withstand repeated assembly without damage.
