Sonnax hydraulic line pressure booster kits contain stronger pressure regulator springs and large ratio boost valves designed to work together to provide progressive pressure increases as driving conditions become more demanding. Our pressure regulator springs are approximately 10% stronger than OE and more conservative in impact than other aftermarket kit springs. Inner Dia.: 1.165"Thickness: 0.010"Material: SteelTang Count: 3It is often difficult to reduce front unit endplay on 400 or 4L80-E units with excessive spline wear. Normal component wear allows excess forward and direct drum travel. This travel or free-play reduces sealing ring life.
The 400 and 4L80-E are limited on the thickness of pump shim material that can be added. Excessive shimming at the pump will push the forward drum off the rings and result in a burned forward clutch. Sonnax offers a .010" thick shim, 34500-Z, that can be stacked under the sun gear bearing race.

Correction:
This unit endplay shim allows for proper setting of front unit endplay and supports the direct drum by supporting the sun gear.

Sonnax case saver retainer 34762-10 for the GM TH400 and '98-earlier 4L80-E is the only intermediate clutch retaining ring case saver that allows the intermediate band to be retained. The Sonnax case saver fits over the intermediate band anchor lug inside the case and extends rearward to support the intermediate clutch backing plate retaining ring, preventing case lug blow out. There have been a variety of case saver designs over the years, however all require eliminating the intermediate band as is often done in drag racing trans-brake applications. Only the Sonnax case saver retainer supports the intermediate clutch retaining ring, yet is thin enough to allow the intermediate band to be installed, allowing case lug protection in all applications.

Vehicles with a GM 400 transmission frequently have poor line rise, soft 1-2 and/or 2-3 shifts and/or reverse engagement difficulties. These problems can be caused by the reciprocating boost valve wearing the inside diameter of the boost sleeve. When this occurs, oil that enters the modulated throttle valve orifice leaks past the boost valve and exhausts through the reverse orifice or to the sump, resulting in poor line rise. Reverse oil also can exhaust both to the sump and back through the modulated TV orifice. The outside diameter of the boost sleeve also allows some leakage through the pump body, which can increase boost oil loss. Sonnax boost valve kit 34910-01K eliminates the above problems by restoring hydraulic integrity and providing a positive seal with the pump bore. Valve and sleeve manufactured from high-quality steel O-rings provide additional protection against leakage through the pump body to assist in maintaining pressure in the circuits which supply the boost valve Kit uses the same valve spool diameters as the OE version to retain factory shifts

High-mileage vehicles with a THM 400 often experience poor line pressure control due to a worn pressure regulator bore. This will result in high cooler pressure and converter, crankshaft, and/or friction element failure. This bore wear can be verified by testing line pressure and Wet Air Testing the pump. This hardened steel valve continuously oscillates within the cast-iron pump bore, resulting in wear. Balance line pressure is then allowed to leak past the valve and exhaust to the sump. This prevents the pressure regulator valve from moving completely to the lower line pressure position. Sonnax offers a pressure regulator valve kit 34910-03K that eliminates these problems.
- The pressure regulator valve has been modified to incorporate a solid PTFE seal ring that properly separates the balance line circuit from the pump suction, preventing cross leakage.
- Kit also includes an o-ringed end plug to ensure proper back pressure to the pressure regulator valve.
- This kit eliminates the need to replace the pump casting to ensure pressure control.
Symptoms: - Delayed converter charge

Correction:
This pressure regulator valve kit includes a solid PTFE seal ring to separate the balance line circuit from the pump suction and an o-ringed endplug to ensure proper back pressure to the pressure regulator valve.

This allows the bushing to wander into the extension housing, leaves the output shaft unsupported, and may ruin the governor gear and cause case damage. A pump that has been resurfaced or accumulated shaft spline wear creates excessive endplay of the forward and direct drums. This reduces sealing ring, clutch, bearing, and thrust washer life. Having the ability to shim both the lower unit sun gear with Sonnax shim 34500-Z on 96' and earlier units and washer34301-078 or 34301-094 on all units addresses these problems.
- Washer 34301-078 (.015" oversized) and 34301-094 (.030" oversized) take up the play between the forward clutch hub and the direct clutch housing, allowing front unit endplay to be reduced.
- Washers also stabilize the direct drum, reducing delayed reverse and improving 2-3 clutch circuit.

Sonnax forward clutch hub washer 34298-078 is .015" thicker than the OE version and replaces the OE .063" thick washer between the forward clutch hub and the forward drum. This allows front unit endplay to be reduced. This new washer is an alternative to the Sonnax washers, 34301-078 and 34301-094. Shimming at this location maintains the relationship with the forward clutch hub and direct drum and does not alter the endplay path through the unit.
