Bore wear or a stuck converter feed limit valve can result in converter overheat, incorrect TCC apply or release, inadequate lube and cooling, and converter over-pressurization. Reaming the bore and installing the Sonnax oversized converter feed limit valve 104520-11 will restore proper valve function, resulting in proper TCC apply and release, regaining control of lube and cooling.

- ehicles with listed GM transmissions may exhibit insufficient line rise in drive ranges, soft shifts and/or burnt clutches. These problems may be caused by continuous oscillation of the boost valve within the boost sleeve, creating excessive wear and a path for EPC fluid pressure to leak to exhaust. Sonnax boost valve kit 104520-12K has upgraded materials and minimal clearances to prevent wear and restore proper hydraulic control. The sleeve also has a slightly larger EPC feed orifice to provide quicker throttle response. A new pressure regulator valve outer spring is also included to replace weakened original springs and provides a modest 5 psi increase across the pressure curve.

Listed GM 6-speed transmissions often set various trouble codes related to failures of fluid pressure switches that are internal to the transmission electro-hydraulic control module (TEHCM). These codes may be accompanied by TCC apply problems or shift irregularities such as slipping, flares, harsh application, and bind-ups. As time goes by, the laminated portions of the pressure switches can breach, preventing normal switch operation. If more than one switch breaks down, failsafe mode can be triggered. Since switches cannot be obtained through OE channels, replacement of the TEHCM was the only previous remedy available.
It is no longer necessary to replace the expensive TEHCM assembly to rectify this concern. Installing Sonnax pressure switch rebuild master pack 124740-28K restores normal switch operation, eliminating codes and providing renewed shift performance in all ranges.

These complaints can be caused by wear of the end plugs allowing valuable actuator/solenoid feed pressure to leak at the various regulator valves and Reverse and latch pressure to leak at the clutch select valves.

GM 6L80 and 6L90 transmissions often suffer failure of the 4-5-6 clutch assembly due to OE design shortcomings. Insufficient clutch piston-to-plate apply surface area causes clutch plate failure, especially when apply pressures exceed OE specifications. The other problem is flexing and bowing of the backing plate (coning), which is a primary source of clutch failure.
The heavy-duty Sonnax 4-5-6 clutch apply piston kit 104960-01K addresses these weak areas in two ways:
- A modified OE clutch apply piston and piston dam are used in conjunction with a specially-designed Sonnax piston apply ring.
- A more rigid backing plate.
The Sonnax apply ring increases surface area between the apply piston and OE waved clutch plate, resulting in more even distribution of apply force to clutch plates. The Sonnax backing plate minimizes flexing/bowing when clutch is applied, drastically reducing the likelihood of clutch plate distortion.

Part No. 104034AThe OE pump bushing in GM 6L50, 6L80 and 6L90 units utilizes a PTFE-impregnated load bearing surface to support large forces and survive dry-start conditions. Replacement bushings are unavailable from GM, so when this bushing eventually wears out, builders have the choice of buying an entire bell housing to get the bushing or settling for aftermarket bushings that can't stand up in this environment. Unfortunately, it is also very common for these units to suffer internal torque converter failures which create debris that ruins this bushing.
Sonnax PTFE-impregnated pump bushing 104034A is a direct replacement OE-style bushing which should be used in these 6L units that contain a worn bushing, or one that has been damaged because of an internal converter failure.

OE Part No. 24238004 An essential upgrade for any hard-working GM 6L80 transmission, Sonnax heavy duty 4-5-6 clutch hub and intermediate shaft 104680-36 guarantees maximum protection against shaft breakage and clutch failure in any vehicle pushing stock components to the limit. In place of the two-piece shaft/hub, Sonnax uses a much stronger, one-piece design that eliminates the OE assembly’s weak, welded connection. The one-piece design is custom forged from ultra high-strength 300M billet steel, then heat treated and shot peened for added durability. This combination of features guards against broken 4-5-6 hubs and the risk of rear splines shearing off — chronic failures in performance cars and trucks as well as heavy commercial vehicles. The 4-5-6 clutch is released in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gears, and at high RPMs, constant oil flow is required across the spinning clutch frictions to prevent heat build-up and damaged clutches.
