Problem Solvers Complaint: Sets various Codes, most notably the "P1811" Max adapt or long shift completion , or various T.C.C. slip/error codes. Can also cause 2ND gear starts.
Cause: Low Pressure from AFL signal/balnace oil leaks resulting from valve bore wear - specifically, from the small end of the balance side of the valve bore in the channel plate casting.
Correction: Install Superior's K098 AFL VALVE FIX, The newly Designed AFL valve and spring combo along with a simple cup plug will stop the leak! The differential lube tube is not mechanically retained. With heat and pressure the lube tube can move out of the accumulator housing and into the rubber hose section, causing a loss of lube oil.

1-2 shift valve
The OE 1-2 shift valve in 4T60-E units is prone to wear and side loading because it is made of raw aluminum. The valve tends to stick in place when shifting from 1st to 2nd, and even when the PCM has commanded a 1-2 shift by turning off the A solenoid, the worn OE valve may fail to make the shift because it is stuck in the 1st gear position.

Vehicles with a 4T65-E transmission often exhibit such problems as soft upshifts (especially 1-2), delayed reverse and low line rise. This can be traced to wear of the OE boost sleeve assembly. The OE boost sleeve assembly consists of two steel valves and a steel plug that reside in the boost sleeve. The steel valves wear the aluminum sleeve and allow leakage of boost pressure. The OE boost assembly is not serviceable separately from OE, which forces the purchase of a new and expensive valve body. Sonnax offers an upgraded boost sleeve assembly 84754-30K to replace the worn OE parts and allow the OE valve body to be used and restore the hydraulic integrity of the circuit.

Cause:
Bore wear near the small valve causes harsh or delayed reverse depending on the location and severity of the leak, and the temperature wear near the end plug causes soft shift quality and lowline rise.
Correction:
The replacement boost sleeve delivers oil 360° around the valve, reducing side load. Also the surface contact of the spools is greater, which improves durability and reduces oil loss.

The continuous stroking of the 1-2 (forward) and reverse servo boost valves wear away at the valve bore, creating excess clearance and reduced apply pressures. This can lead to 1-2 band slippage, delayed engagements, 1-2 shift flares, and decreased reverse pressure. Sonnax has developed an oversized valve 84754-40K that will restore the hydraulic integrity and more than doubles the valve-to-bore contact area to prevent leakage.

Continuous oscillation of the converter apply valve in the cast-aluminum bore causes bore wear, particularly at the TCC signal valve spool closest to the solenoid. Wear in this area allows TCC signal oil to leak, which inhibits the valve from stroking to the lockup position. Due to the valve body casting design and oil flow, this valve is also subject to extreme side loading, which increases the wear rate. Early OE versions of this valve were made from non-anodized aluminum, and show significant wear marks. The TCC regulated apply valve should also be checked for wear. The Sonnax kit includes an O-ring to replace the OE O-ring on the TCC regulated end plug after inspection.

To help control the 3rd clutch apply pressure and shift feel, a 2-3 accumulator piston and an accumulator valve and sleeve that regulate fluid pressure are used. The 2-3 accumulator valve and sleeve regulate line pressure using torque signal influence and direct 2-3 accumulator pressure to the spring side of the piston, controlling the 3rd clutch apply. Wear at the sleeve or valve can allow torque signal, 2-3 accumulator or line pressures to exhaust, resulting in various 2-3 shift complaints. Side cover repair plate
For stamped steel side covers
Vehicles with a 4T60 or 4T60-E transmission often have oil leakage at the side cover to channel plate inner gasket. The time-consuming and difficult task of replacing the inner side cover gasket often does not eliminate the leakage. The failure of this gasket can be caused by 4th clutch heat, side cover corrosion, and/or potential crushing or splitting of the gasket when the side cover pan nuts are torqued. We offer a leak repair plate, 84995-01, designed to fix the leak without removing the side cover or replacing the failed gasket.

3-4 Accumulator Piston
It is common to have poor 3-4 shifts, no 4th gear or a burned 4th clutch in 4T65-E units. This can be caused by excessive wear at the 3-4 accumulator piston pin bore, which allows 4th clutch oil to exhaust and can result in harsh 4th, no 4th gear or a burned 4th clutch. Pin bore wear also reduces 3rd clutch pressure during 3-4 shift. The 4th shift quality depends on the condition of the piston and accumulator valves. If the 4th accumulator piston seizes, the 4th shift will be very hard. The accumulator piston 84880M-01 restores accumulator pressure and eliminates cross leaks.
