Sonnax hydraulic line pressure booster kits contain stronger pressure regulator springs and large ratio boost valves designed to work together to provide progressive pressure increases as driving conditions become more demanding.
Our pressure regulator springs are approximately 10% stronger than OE and more conservative in impact than other aftermarket kit springs. Large ratio boost valves provide higher pressure incrementally and when it is needed the most. The combination of these springs and valves in a Sonnax kit gives you the best of both worlds: a modest pressure increase at the low end, with a high-end pressure that is equal to or greater than that of other aftermarket kit springs.

It can be difficult to reduce the endplay on E4OD units with spline or sunshell wear. When driveline wear is excessive, sealing ring and thrust wear increases. As the lower unit wear increases, OE selective thrust washers are not thick enough to compensate. Rebuilders often try to correct excessive endplay by adding thicker shims to the pump surface, but this does not solve the problem. Sonnax offers a shim 36402-Z to compensate for driveline wear.
- Shim (together with OE thrust washer) allows for precise endplay adjustment.
- .010" thick shim is used between 4-tanged thrust washer and rear planetary assembly.
- Shim lifts the sunshell as well as the drum.

Vehicles with Ford E4OD and 4R100 transmissions frequently have problems with poor line rise and/or soft shifts. These complaints are often caused by severe wear of the pressure regulator boost sleeve, allowing EPC and Reverse boost oil leakage. Sonnax boost valve kit 36424-01K eliminates these problems.

4R100 PWM units use a plunger valve assembly and coil spring to cushion the TCC control valve. That assembly uses regulated converter pressure as a variable hydraulic spring to control the rate of TCC apply. Continuous oscillation of the TCC control plunger valve wears the sleeve ID, allowing regulated converter pressure leakage. This can result in premature or bumpy TCC apply and/or shudder. Sonnax offers a drop-in replacement assembly, 36424-08K.

First and second design Ford E4OD, 4R100 retaining rings are known to pop out of the retaining ring groove, causing initial failure or costly comebacks. Sonnax Sure Lock spiral snap ring 36744-01 features a unique design that mechanically locks tabs into place, preventing it from being worked out of the retaining ring groove.

Cause:
The open-end style retaining rings do not have a locking mechanism, and are susceptible to being pulled out of groove by piston spring forces.
Correction:

The Low/Reverse modulator plunger valve uses line pressure to control the position of the Low/Reverse modulator valve. Due to continuous oscillation of the plunger valve, wear occurs at the ID of the sleeve, allowing line pressure to leak to exhaust. The Low/Reverse modulator valve is prevented from properly supplying regulated line pressure to the Low/Reverse clutch, which can cause slippage, burnt clutches, and loss of engine braking.

Fits Ford E4OD and 4R100 with F1, F5, F8 and E9 stamped pump castings.
Ford E4OD, 4R100 transmissions often have problems with converter overheat, codes 62, 628, 1744, high line pressure and low cooler flow. The OE valve can close off critical converter/cooler circuit under high-demand situations, causing the TCC to drag on and glaze the lining at idle, or restricting converter/cooler charge during high load, leading to converter slip codes, overheat and lube failures.

- Oversized gear has improved fit and durability of pump-to-torque-converter interface.
- Direct replacement gears will work with any F5 and later pump housings with no machining required.
- Oversized version fits F5 and later pump housings with excessive wear by allowing pump housings to be refurbished by machnining the pump cavity.
- Both gear sets are designed to meet or exceed OEM pump gear performance.
In 1995 the E4OD pump was redesigned to utilize pump gears with 10 lobes on the outer gear. Prior to 1995 the outer pump gear had 11 lobes. The pump casting was also revised. Prior to 1995 the pump casting was designated as E9 or F1. Beginning in 1995 the casting designation was changed to F5 and is currently F8. The E9 and F1 E4OD pumps suffered from low pump output and should be replaced with an F5 or later model pump.
