Sonnax now offers replacements 10000-01K and 10000-02K for the various relief valves and drainback valves that are found in valve bodies. The design of the OE valves causes the separator plate and valve bore to wear. The result is leakage or valve sticking. The Sonnax valve is rounded so it seals against an unworn part of the separator plate and eliminates sticking problems.
The Sonnax valve is ideally suited for replacing the drainback valve on AXOD, AXOD-E, AX4N and AX4S units. The OE drainback valve frequently sticks in the bore. A common shop practice is to replace the OE drainback valve with a check ball. However, this practice requires shortening the spring. The Sonnax valve solves the sticking problem and is designed to work with the existing spring. No spring modifications are needed.
Although either part number can be used in multiple locations, it is suggested to use a relief with a radius close to original, maintaining the spring rate. On a severely worn plate or bore, the higher radius will allow for better plate contact and less bore hang-up.

Wear of the pump slide pivot pin due to the continuous oscillation of the pump slide allows cross leaks between the pressure and exhaust sides. As the OE pin wears, it can contribute to erratic pump slide movement, which in turn causes erratic pressures and poor line rise control.

Hard-Coat Finish, Lengthened Spool Diameter
Delayed forward engagement, burned forward clutch, and/or forward clutch psi low by 10-15 psi in vehicles with AXOD, AXODE, AX4N/S or 4F50N transmissions are common complaints. These are often caused by a worn valve body at the manual valve bore, allowing excessive oil leakage. Replace the worn OE manual valve with Sonnax manual valve 96201-05 to prevent oil leakage and increase stability at the linkage.

Vehicles with an AXOD, AXODE, AX4S or AX4N transmission frequently have flare 1-2 & 2-3 upshifts, high pressure, harsh reverse (300 psi), 2-1 downshift clunk, non-adjustable throttle pressure,and clutch or band failure from poor line rise.

Vehicles with an AXOD & E or AX4S transmission frequently have lube system failures, as well as torque converter clutch apply and release problems. These complaints can be aggravated by severe wear of the bypass clutch control plunger sleeve. Excess wear allows regulated converter charge and cooler oil leakage. This oil is fed to the lube circuits, cooler, TCC and into the sleeve to help maintain the TCC in the release position.
If the sleeve is worn, oil will exhaust past the plunger sleeve. Because this regulated converter charge oil is always present, either as release or apply pressure, severe leakage at the sleeve can result in a no TCC apply situation.

The instability of the main pressure regulator valve, combined with the slide return spring, can cause extreme pressure spikes in the decrease (PC) oil circuit. When the inboard end of the pressure regulator valve wears, the CBY or bypass oil cannot flow past the regulator valve, causing delayed engagements and reduced converter fill and lube oil flow.
Correction:
The Sonnax kit contains an oversized anodized valve with modified spool lengths which better regulates converter/lube flow and restores hydraulic stability

Piston is compatible with all OE springs and OE piston pins.

The cast iron sealing ring on the Ford AXOD & E, AX4S, AX4N AND 4F50N turbine shaft frequently wears the mating surface on the aluminum channel plate. The resulting internal leakage diminishes cooler/lube flow, which contributes to common overdrive planetary failure. Hypoeutectic aluminum castings have insufficient silicon content to withstand the erosive wear of ductile iron. Sonnax has made available a hardened and ground steel sleeve 96803 to salvage worn channel plates.

The servo tubes on AXOD & E units may walk off from the transmission case. This causes the servo piston to release and create a no forward condition. There may be insufficient press fit between the tubes and case to withstand the servo apply pressure. If the tubes have been removed for cleaning, the possibility of walk-off increases. Install the Sonnax AXOD & E servo tube bracket 96806. It is an easy-to-install bolt-on bracket that positively retains the servo tubes.

Pump Shaft Sleeve
Part No. 96201-18When installed, this pump shaft sleeve restores the fit and integrity between the pump shaft and the valve body. As this sleeve is not currently available, the rebuilder is forced to buy a new valve body.
Before installing the sleeve, notice that a witness mark has been machined into one end of the sleeve, aligned with the machined lube hole. This witness mark designates the end that protrudes out of the valve body and provides a visual aid for alignment of the lube hole during installation.
Press the sleeve into the valve body on the face that contains the two locator pins. The witness mark and the lube slot should be aligned with the crossport in the valve body. The sleeve should be left protruding from the valve body by .220".

Part No. AS1-01KIn most GM and Ford transmissions with cables, including GM TH200, 200-4R, TH200C, 4L60 (700-R4) and Ford AOD, AXOD, the throttle valve cable pulls out of adjustment at wide-open throttle. This is typically caused by inaccurate geometry of the throttle shaft lever. There should be a specific degree of movement of the attachment element pivot point between closed and wide open throttle. There also should be a specific distance between the pivot points of the attachment element and the throttle shaft lever. When either of these two distances are greater than the spec, the TV cable will be pulled out of adjustment.
