Relief valve
High radius
- Material: Steel
Sonnax now offers replacements 10000-01K and 10000-02K for the various relief valves and drainback valves that are found in valve bodies. The design of the OE valves causes the separator plate and valve bore to wear. The result is leakage or valve sticking. The Sonnax valve is rounded so it seals against an unworn part of the separator plate and eliminates sticking problems.
The Sonnax valve is ideally suited for replacing the drainback valve on AXOD, AXOD-E, AX4N and AX4S units. The OE drainback valve frequently sticks in the bore. A common shop practice is to replace the OE drainback valve with a check ball. However, this practice requires shortening the spring. The Sonnax valve solves the sticking problem and is designed to work with the existing spring. No spring modifications are needed.
Although either part number can be used in multiple locations, it is suggested to use a relief with a radius close to original, maintaining the spring rate. On a severely worn plate or bore, the higher radius will allow for better plate contact and less bore hang-up.
- Works with existing spring
- No modifications needed

Pressure Regulator Sleevekit 4R44E,5R55E
- Sleeve
- Retaining Clip
- Solenoid Regulator Valve Spring
Constant oscillation of the pressure regulator valve can cause excessive wear at the balance line end of the bore, allowing balance line pressure to exhaust and preventing the pressure regulator valve from stroking to the lower line pressure position. Severe wear prevents line from entering the converter apply circuit, which will also restrict valuable cooler flow.
- Specially toleranced alloy aluminum sleeve is significantly more wear-resistant than the cast -aluminum valve body, and provides more contact surface with the valve for increased stability and durability.
- Kit includes a replacement solenoid regulator valve spring, which is often damaged during valve body disassembly.
- The tool kit 37947-TL5 also works for the 37947-07K TCC Modulator Sleeve Kit.
Symptoms: - Delayed engagement
- High line pressure
- Low cooler flow at idle
- Low line pressure
- Overheating
Cause:
Wear at the inboard end of the PR valve reduces force, which affects converter feed and engagements, also creating higher line pressure. Wear at the mid-outer end reduces line pressure as it leaks to sump.
Correction:
The Sonnax kits contain a highly wear resistant aluminum sleeve to fit with the OE anodized aluminum valve, providing additional support and proper line pressure control.

- Solenoid Regulator Valve Spring
Constant oscillation of the torque converter clutch (TCC) modulator valve creates wear in the valve body bore, which can allow converter solenoid oil to exhaust. This prevents the TCC modulator valve from stroking fully to the apply position, which can create a no lockup complaint and/or set a 1741 code. Wear at the other end of the valve can prevent TCC release, resulting in cover dragging and stall on forward engagement.
- Specially toleranced alloy aluminum sleeve is significantly more wear-resistant than the cast aluminum valve body.
- Alloy aluminum sleeve provides more contact surface with the valve for increased stability and durability.
- Kit includes a replacement solenoid regulator valve spring, which is often damaged during valvebody disassembly.
- The tool kit also works with the 37947-05K pressure regulator valve sleeve kit.
Symptoms: - Code 1741
- Engine stall on FWD engagement
- Low cooler flow
- No lockup
- Poor converter fill & delayed engagements
Cause:
The modulator valve bore wears at either end or can stick in either position. Fluid control at the inboard circuit prevents lockup valve travel in reverse. The outer circuits affect converter flow and TCC apply through the solenoid.
Correction:
The Sonnax sleeve reduces cross leakage and improves TCC solenoid control over the valve and apply oil.

The Sonnax oversized coast clutch valve kit 37947-33K and tooling salvages the valve body and restores proper coast clutch function in either style unit.
• Oversized valve allows valve body to be refurbished and salvaged.
• Hard-coat anodized valve resists wear.
• Elongated front spool adds stability and prevents blow-by leakage.
• Annular groove centers the valve hydraulically to prevent wear.
• Recalibrated spring provides proper regulating pressure for oversized valve.
• O-ringed end plug positively seals bore to help maintain coast clutch and TCC pressures.
Symptoms: • No 2nd (5R44E/55E) • No 4th (4R44E/55E) • No 5th (5R44E/55E) • No coast clutch apply • No engine braking in D3 to low Cause:
Wear at the coast clutch valve bore or oil loss across the plug that separates the coast clutch valve from the converter regulator valve. The overdrive servo release oil will not vent to allow servo apply.
Correction:
The Sonnax oversized coast clutch valve kit allows the valve body bore to be refurbished to restore the proper clearance with the valve and eliminate leakage.
NOTE: Although this valve can be used on any valve body independent of other repairs, we strongly suggest this kit be used with Sonnax Converter Regulator Sleeve Kit37947-09K. These two line-ups share the same bore and are both commonly worn.

The continuous oscillation of the modulator valve wears the case bore, allowing oil circuit leakage. Line pressure and modulated TV pressure can cross leak or go to exhaust, resulting in uncontrollable shift timing, delayed egagements, harsh or slide shifts, poor line rise, and/or no TV control. Sonnax offers an oversized modulator valve kit 56833-01K that restores thehydraulic integrity of the circuits. Reamer kit 56833-TL must be used to accommodate the oversized valve.
- Valve is manufactured from hard-coat anodized aluminum to prevent wear.
- A longer modulator adjustment screw is included to properly preload the modulator spring and compensate for the oversized valve.
Required tool:

Manual valve index
Vehicles with an A4LD transmission commonly have such problems as burned forward clutches, binding condition when the selector lever is pulled from park, or delayed reverse. The forward clutch failure is often caused by a manual valve indexed out of position, thus allowing line pressure to bleed into the forward clutch circuit in park position. The instability of the linkage also creates a manual valve misalignment and delayed reverse.
Attaching the manual valve index 56947-01 to the end of the manual valve will overcome the loose linkage tolerance and prevent the manual valve from opening up the forward clutch circuit in park.
• The tight cross-hole tolerance on the manual valve index adds stability to the loose linkage.
• Manual valve index has been lengthened to allow it to act as a stop to prevent the forward clutch circuit from being opened in park.
Symptoms: • Burnt Forward clutch • Delayed Reverse • Manual lever binds in Park position Cause:
A manual valve indexed out of position and/or linkage instability allows line pressure to feed the forward clutch circuit in park.
Correction:
This manual valve index will overcome the loose linkage tolerance and correctly position the manual valve.
