Sonnax hydraulic line pressure booster kits contain stronger pressure regulator springs and large ratio boost valves designed to work together to provide progressive pressure increases as driving conditions become more demanding.
Our pressure regulator springs are approximately 10% stronger than OE and more conservative in impact than other aftermarket kit springs. Large ratio boost valves provide higher pressure incrementally and when it is needed the most.

Cause:
The pump flow control canister and plunger valve wear, allowing the plunger valve to stick open and/or leakage to occur. The canister o-ring relaxes and pressure bleeds past it.
Correction:
This drop-in-place assembly includes a harder canister with more support for the plunger valve, which prevents sticking. The assembly also includes a case-hardened plunger valve with self-centering annular groves, a replacement spring, and larger O-ring for improved sealing.

These complaints are often caused by wear at the ID of the TCC modulator plunger valve sleeve, due to constant oscillation by the pulse width modulated TCC solenoid. This plunger valve positions the TCC modulator valve, which feeds line to the apply circuit, which controls slip rate. As the valve bore wears at the inboard spool, line pressure escalates with increased temperature and the pressure regulator valve does not stroke, reducing converter charge. As line pressure goes up, servo covers and pistons have excess pressure in reverse. Delayed engagements occur as the converter feed is reduced with excess bore wear. In Ford 5R55W and 5R55S valve bodies, some end plugs and their bores are often worn due to small movements of the end plug within the bore. This motion is caused by continuous rapid fluctuations of fluid pressure, impact of a valve against the end plug face and spring forces where the end plug face is utilized as a spring seat. Additionally, the bore surface and end plugs can erode over time due to high pressure fluid squeezing between the bore and end plug. Sonnax O-ringed end plug kit 56947J-66K helps restore correct circuit pressures by replacing worn OE end plugs. The O-rings provide additional sealing to help prevent hydraulic losses in eroded bores.

Complaints of no 4th or 5th gear, codes 734 and/or 735, and solenoid C codes can occur on the 5R55N due to a broken 4-3 pre-stroke valve spring.
The 4-3 pre-stroke valve controls the apply and release rate of the intermediate servo and direct clutch, which should be applied in 4th and 5th gear. The Sonnax 4-3 Pre-Stroke Valve Spring 56947J-S1 addresses these complaints.
This spring is not used on 5R55W & S units.
• Spring is made from chrome-silicon alloy, which allows higher working stresses than typical music wire spring material.
• Spring configuration reduces operating stresses at the critical regulating positions of the valve by 8%.
