The control sleeve assembly opposes TCC solenoid pressure to modulate apply and release of the torque converter clutch. As the sleeve wears, the solenoid will push the valve quickly, causing premature lockup, loss of power and bumpy/cycling apply. The oil reacting on the valve within the sleeve is regulated converter apply oil. If the sleeve is extremely worn, apply oil pressure is reduced as it leaks at the sleeve. When the sleeve wears and causes the valve to hang, the TCC will not apply with required pressure, and overheating or slippage occurs. Sonnax offers a drop-in replacement assembly, 36940-01K.
Symptoms: - Code 1783
- Code P0741
- Excess TCC slip
- Overheating
- TCC cycling

Cause:
Wear at the TCC control sleeve.
Correction:
The Sonnax aluminum alloy sleeve and hard-anodized valve will restore proper hydraulic clearances and prevent premature wear.

- Restores normal line pressure, eliminates related shift problems and restores cooler flow.
- Repairs both early and late versions of 5R110W pump bodies.
NOTE: Three pump generations were produced, with varying casting hardness. The Sonnax reaming tool kit used must be matched to the hardness of the pump to extend reamer life and bore finish quality. Sonnax reaming tool kit F-36940-TL3 is for use with first generation pumps, while F-36940-TL3C can be used with all pumps regardless of pump generation. See instructions for details.
WARNING: A specially designed oversized base plate VB-06 must be mounted to the VB-FIX to accommodate the 5R110W pump body.

- Manual Valve Part No. 36940-22 Fits all 5R110W units. Replaces OE valves with OR without holes in long spool. The OE manual valve in Ford 5R110W units is prone to anodization flaking and degradation resulting in premature wear of the valve and loss of hydraulic control. Sonnax offers a slightly oversized direct replacement manual valve 36940-22 that outperforms the OE valve and requires no special tooling.

The Sonnax reaming tool kit used must be matched to the hardness of the pump to extend reamer life and bore finish quality. Sonnax reaming tool kit F-36940-TL3 for 36940-03K is for use with first generation pumps (OE casting numbers RF3C3P-7B324-AA or AB).
