In Chrysler RWD units, the cooler/converter charge circuit is not opened until the pressure regulator valve moves far enough to flow oil. The industry "fix" of drilling a small orifice between line pressure and cooler circuit ensures fluid to the converter/lube circuit, but the hole also increases the converter drainback problem because ATF can drain out through the orifice when the engine is turned off.
The Sonnax valve, 22771A-10K, is designed with an internal check valve that allows oil to flow into the converter charge circuit as soon as the vehicle is started. Once line pressure reaches normal levels, the internal check valve closes. This feature also prevents fluid from draining out of the orifice with the engine off, reducing converter drainback.

The inner race or hub of the one-way roller clutch may come into contact with and cause wear to the back of the transmission case. This rearward movement of the hub is primarily a result of excessive endplay. To protect the case from further wear and eliminate excessive endplay, install a Sonnax case repair bearing, 22556-BRG. This repair bearing requires that the case be machined using a milling machine with a rotary table. Late cases will require machining of the reverse drum.

There are two styles of the OE reverse servo piston plug in Chrysler RWD units:
- The extended tip version for the 47RH/RE (A618) and 48RE
- The flat tip version for the 40RH, 42RH/RE, 44RE (A500), 46RH/RE (A518), 36RH, 37RH (A727) and 30RH (A904).
Symptoms: - Burnt Reverse band
- No Reverse
- Reverse servo piston plug breakage

Cause:
The OE aluminum servo plugs wear and gall due to soft material and also are prone to break at the spring seat area.
Correction:
Restore normal Reverse operation by installing Sonnax reverse servo piston plug kit.

These complaints can be caused by the front servo pin wearing the cover pin bore.
In 3rd gear, direct clutch oil is present under the servo cover to release the band. Oil leaks due to a worn cover affect 2-3 shift and direct clutch durability.

Sonnax reinforced front clutch piston 22965A-01 is made of cast aluminum and specially designed to guard against failure with additional webbing that reinforces weak areas of the piston.
NOTE: The Sonnax piston is a direct replacement for OE part numbers 02464651AB, 02464651AD and 02464651AE used in '98-later 46RE, 47RE and 48RE units.
Can also be used as a replacement for OE part number 02464651 in A727, as well as '97-earlier 46RH/RE and 47RH/RE units when used in conjunction with thicker steels to compensate for the .020" thinner piston.
