This TransGo TFOD-Diesel SHIFT KIT® Valve Body Repair Kit fits 1988 to 2003 Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles equipped with the A518, 46RH, 46RE, A618, 47RH and 47RE TorqueFlite four speed automatic transmission with gas or diesel engines. This kit does not fit the 48RE transmission or the 2003 Dodge trucks with the 8th VIN code of ‘C’. Common complaints on this transmission are TCC slip or shudder, 2nd gear band and direct clutch failure as well as torque converter drain-back.
Features and benefits:
The kit includes valve body and internal components that are designed for higher operating pressures. As a result, with MAX main line pressure set to 125 psi in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and up to 150 psi in 4th or in lock-up, this kit provides a significant increase in torque capacity for all of the friction elements including the TCC clutch. These elevated pressure specs are ideal for the heavy-duty work truck as well as for pulling the fishing boat to the loading ramp. With the kit installed it brings a whole new driving experience to the truck while keeping the shift timing at the OE RPM’s for the optimal engine power curve. Therefore, the shifts are short and clean with no harshness, bangs or clangs.
There are several innovative components in this kit. For instance, our line-to-converter feed system which helps the unit run cooler and promotes longer TCC clutch life. There are several innovative components in this kit. One of them is our line-to-converter feed system which helps the unit run cooler and promotes longer TCC clutch life. Likewise, the TransGo pioneered manual valve reduces overnight forward and reverse delayed engagement complaints due to torque converter drain back. The kit also includes a drop-in detent ball bore repair bullet that works directly in the existing worn bore, this helps with difficult park dis-engagement problem. Similarly, the new drop-in TV and throttle reducing valve (boost) with relocated lands restores the TV pressure boost system functionality providing quick line pressure response in forward and reverse ranges. In addition, the valve body modifications provide increased flow to the direct clutch and band release circuit reducing 2-3 shift overlap.
Lastly, you can install this kit with the transmission in the truck. On the other hand, there are internal sealing rings furnished in the kit if the transmission is on the bench for overhaul.

Under extreme pressure or temperature conditions, the converter/lube circuit in listed Chrysler RWD units can be restricted by the PR valve. The practice of drilling a hole between passages is problematic. This outdated technique contributes to slow engagements or — if the hole is improperly drilled — excessive converter pressure and low line pressure.
The best way to improve oil flow is to replace the OE valve with Sonnax lube regulatored pressure regulator valve 22771A-02K, which ensures oil flow under extreme operating conditions and prevents drainback when the truck is off.- Improves converter feed/lube oil flow at critical low RPM and high load conditions

The OE retainer in listed Chrysler applications is prone to cracking and breaking, which allows the boost valve and spring to fall out of position. That causes a leak of 4th gear and TCC oil pressure. Sonnax boost valve spring retainer 22990-01 eliminates this leakage by securely keeping the valve and spring in place, and is made from steel for greater durability than the OE retainer.
Symptoms: - Leakage of 4th & TCC oil pressure

Cause:
The U-shaped bracket at the top of valve body that retains the boost valve and spring breaks, allowing the spring and valve to fall out of position.
Correction:

The inner race or hub of the one-way roller clutch may come into contact with and cause wear to the back of the transmission case. This rearward movement of the hub is primarily a result of excessive endplay. To protect the case from further wear and eliminate excessive endplay, install a Sonnax case repair bearing, 22556-BRG. This repair bearing requires that the case be machined using a milling machine with a rotary table. Late cases will require machining of the reverse drum.

- The extended tip version for the 47RH/RE (A618) and 48RE
- The flat tip version for the 40RH, 42RH/RE, 44RE (A500), 46RH/RE (A518), 36RH, 37RH (A727) and 30RH (A904).
Symptoms: - Burnt Reverse band

Cause:
The OE aluminum servo plugs wear and gall due to soft material and also are prone to break at the spring seat area.
Correction:

- 22900-10 is .100" longer and 22900-15 is .150" longer to regain correct band adjustment.
- Use of these struts eliminates the need to use specially relined bands with a thicker lining.

These complaints can be caused by the front servo pin wearing the cover pin bore.
In 3rd gear, direct clutch oil is present under the servo cover to release the band. Oil leaks due to a worn cover affect 2-3 shift and direct clutch durability.

Sonnax reinforced front clutch piston 22965A-01 is made of cast aluminum and specially designed to guard against failure with additional webbing that reinforces weak areas of the piston.
NOTE: The Sonnax piston is a direct replacement for OE part numbers 02464651AB, 02464651AD and 02464651AE used in '98-later 46RE, 47RE and 48RE units.
Can also be used as a replacement for OE part number 02464651 in A727, as well as '97-earlier 46RH/RE and 47RH/RE units when used in conjunction with thicker steels to compensate for the .020" thinner piston.
