However, due to the smaller seal groove diameter, the piston will contact the bore when side-loaded resulting in scuffing, wear and leakage of clutch apply pressure.Sonnax accumulator piston kit 44894-01K features two guide seal rings, one at each end of the piston to prevent piston-to-bore scuffing when side loaded. - 1989 and newer Chrysler vehicles equipped with A604, A606, 40TE, 41TE/S, 42LE, 62TE, 42RLE, 45RFE, 545RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE or 68RFE all utilize a solenoid switch valve and two switch valve shuttle plugs (there are three plugs in the bore however one acts only as an end plug). The shuttle plugs are prone to create bore wear and complaints and associated codes. The purpose of the solenoid switch valve and the two independent shuttle plugs is to allow one single PWM type solenoid that is designated “Low Reverse-Converter Clutch” to perform two separate functions. When the solenoid switch valve is latched in its outboard position, the LR/CC solenoid controls the oil flow to the low and reverse brake for 1st gear. On the other hand, when the solenoid switch valve is latched in the inboard position which is 2nd gear and all ranges beyond the LR/CC solenoid now controls the converter clutch. Chrysler RFE transmissions have a unique, full range pressure transducer and real-time adaptive closed-loop pressure control system. Because of this, it is not possible to raise pressure in an RFE the same way you would in other transmissions.
The typical method of installing a stronger pressure regulator spring or larger boost valve will not work because the RFE control module will simply adapt and return pressure to OE specification. An electrical booster option is the only way to raise pressure on an RFE. Sonnax line pressure booster kit RFE-LB1 is an improved design over a simple resistor circuit.
Featuring an integrated chip (IC) circuit and a stronger pressure regulator spring, this new kit delivers 10 psi increase at lower pressure range and 25 psi increase at higher pressure ranges. Only Sonnax line pressure booster kits provide progressive pressure increase which gives you smooth engagements and lower load on the pump at idle, but a greater increase in pressure as the transmission is worked harder.
